For the Santa Fe Saints Fastpitch team, 2008 will be a year to remember. The team became the first in school history to win 50 games, going 51-3-1 and also set a record for most consecutive wins, winning 32 in a row from February 29 to April 10. The team is currently ranked number one in the state of Florida, and number one in the national poll as well. The Saints have been ranked number one in the state for the entire spring and number one in the nation for every week with the exception of the first week’s poll. The Saints outscored their opponents 328-70 this season, averaging nearly six runs per game, while giving up just over one run per game. On the year, the Saints hit .341, tied for second in the state, and racked up 502 hits, leading the state. They also hit 36 homeruns as a team. The Saints will take to the field again on May 2 at 12:00pm for the first day of the FCCAA/NJCAA Region VIII Tournament in Auburndale, FL, when they will play conference rival Lake City College in the first round of the double elimination tournament. The UF Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Institute is a proud supporter of The Fourth Annual Boortz Invitational. This sold out event is Saturday, April 15th at the Golden Hills Golf and Turf Club in Ocala, Florida.
The UF Sports Performance Center officially unveiled itself to the public. The UF team physicians, certified athletic trainers, and biomedical engineers shared information about the benefits of sports performance programs for athletes of every age and ability. Demonstrations of cycling, golf, and injury prevention programs were also conducted.
