Prepare For A Safe Landing

Summer Camps in session: June 16th - August 8th, 2008

ACL Injury Prevention Program

Tears of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) can be one of the most frequent and frustrating injuries to an athlete. Well over 150,000 ACL injuries occur yearly. The injury can come at any time and most often comes without contact from another competitor. Also, the injury can sideline the athlete for an entire season.

SoccerAthletes, especially women, participating in basketball and soccer are four times more prone to this injury due to the nature of the stress put on the knee from landings from jumps and twisting during running and kicking and other lower body movements associated with sports.

Prepare for a Safe Landing (PSL for the ACL) was developed by our Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers who specialize in sports-related training programs. PSL for the ACL is a program targeting the reduction of the risk of ACL injuries. Research into this area has lead to a concept known as neuromuscular training. This training seeks to enhance athletes' balance, body/joint awareness, movement techniques, and muscle strength. Our specialists have built this program around these training principles.

  • Training athletes' quadriceps and hamstrings so that they are appropriately strong and flexible to work together to protect the ligaments.

  • Training athletes in jumping exercises so landing is less stressful to the knee joint.

  • Training athletes in proper body mechanics.

PERSONAL TRAINING:
Set up training according to your schedule. This system encourages you to train individually or in groups on the days and times that best fit your schedule and at a location that is most convenient for you.
